How vulnerable is your portfolio?
You do not need to predict the next disruption to examine where your investment portfolio is fragile.

I do not need to predict the next disruption to examine where my investment portfolio is vulnerable.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb makes this point in Antifragile:
“It is far easier to figure out if something is fragile than to predict the occurrence of an event that may harm it.”
That gives me a practical starting point for managing uncertainty.
Different holdings can share the same dependence
I could own a global equity fund, a property fund, corporate debt and a private investment.
The holdings look different.
Yet several could depend on affordable financing, strong demand and investors remaining willing to take risk.
If those conditions weaken together, more of my portfolio could come under pressure than I expected.
Examine the shared exposure.
- 01
Which conditions support its value?
- 02
Where does my portfolio already depend on those conditions?
- 03
What could hurt several holdings at once?
- 04
Could leverage or limited liquidity force an unfavourable decision?
- 05
How much loss could I absorb if recovery took longer?
Look beyond individual positions
A holding may appear manageable on its own while increasing an exposure that is already substantial across the portfolio.
Several small allocations can create one large dependence.
Examine the consequence without predicting the date
You may not know when financing will tighten, demand will weaken or market confidence will disappear.
You can still examine how those developments would affect what you own.
That examination helps me judge position sizes, shared exposures and the flexibility I would retain under pressure.
My forecast may be carefully researched. My portfolio still needs room for it to be wrong.
